Good Timing

Well, it's certainly been a long time since I've last published a post here! It seems that a lot of other things got in the way of my gardening - the worst being injury. Unfortunately, I hurt my back quite badly when I decided to dig over my allotment plot. It had to be the most disappointing day of my life that year as I only just managed to get the fork in the ground for the first time and SNAP! I couldn't move. Luckily I came prepared with my mobile in my pocket and called my husband to rescue me.

Since then I've been somewhat reluctant to do anything in case I hurt myself again. Then, I took one long look at my allotment and garden and decided to give it all another go. I love plants and growing them so I can't escape that feeling of happiness that working outdoors gives me, along with the satisfaction of growing my own veg.

So, what is there to do this time of year? One thing that I'm keen to do is shop. Yep, you read that right. Now is the time to save yourself a load of money by buying gardening products such as seeds as supermarkets and garden centres will start selling off this year's stock. I counted that the £6 I recently spent on seeds saved me a whopping £22.23. I purchased twelve packets of seeds marked down to just 50p each. During spring I could have easily spent almost £30 on the same seeds. To also save money I've been propagating my own plants. Over late summer I've been collecting seeds from various fruits and flowers, carefully placing them in labelled envelopes. On top of that I've been taking some cuttings to grow on - something that I'm not always very good at but it's worth giving a go.

All of these seeds could have left me £28.23 out of pocket but instead, I paid just £6.00 as now is the time of year to buy seeds at sale price.

Well, this time I aim to write much more and hopefully not get any injuries!

Till next time x
